48 Million Americans PDF Print E-mail

Today is another important primary day for our Democratic presidential contenders. But regardless of who wins, Obama or Clinton, the differences between them, as compared with our differences with the Washington Republicans, are small. This simple truth will become clear once our presidential nominee is chosen.

Well, what are our differences with the Washington Republicans? We will continue to discuss them in continuing messages, but the one I will discuss this week is critical to all Tennesseans: health care. Each of us is affected by the ever increasing expense of access to adequate health care. We all have friends, relatives, business associates or employees who face the absence of affordable health coverage or the immediate difficulty of having to pay for necessary, but expensive health care or prescriptions.

How can this be in the wealthiest nation in history? It is because those in a position to affect national health care policy – President Bush and the Washington Republicans – have simply sold out to the insurance companies and the pharmaceutical giants. Each of those industries enjoys record profits, while nearly 48 million Americans have no health insurance at all. And most small businesses and individuals who pay for health insurance find that it amounts to around 20% of their annual costs of living – far too much.

We need to join the rest of the western industrial nations in offering accessible health care to all Americans. I support a national health care insurance exchange that would provide access to everyone. By creating rules and standards for participating insurance plans to ensure fairness and to make health care coverage more affordable, we can reform the private insurance market and guarantee fair and stable premiums that will not depend upon health status.

Senator Obama, Senator Clinton, and I share the common goal of providing accessible and affordable health care to all our citizens. Senator Alexander and Senator McCain oppose such plans. We must defeat them and the other Washington Republicans who hold us back.

That is why I am running for the U.S. Senate. Let's Take the Hill.

Semper Fi,

Bob Tuke

P.S. – We've just released a new video revealing Senator Alexander’s Flat Tax flip-flop. You'll have to see it to believe it. Watch it now at www.LamarFacts.com!
